Peer Support sessions commenced at Seaham Public School on Friday, the 8th of June. The lessons give the year 6 students a chance to put their learning into practice. The senior students completed their training in May and learnt things like organising and preparing resources, working in groups, identifying other students who require help and communication skills. Each group is made up of students from all grades across the school with two leaders having responsibility for each group. On Thursday the leaders meet to go through their lesson and organise any resources needed. This prepares them to confidently run their group when the bell goes at 12:10 every Friday.
Principal Craig Partridge said "The first lesson was a great success. Usually their are hiccups as new leaders begin peer support. Today all leaders were confident, knew their lesson and handled their groups well." He added that "Peer support is a great opportunity to see some students in a whole new light. Quiet students are often the ones who shine when they are put into this situation."
